PERSONAL PROFILE

 

I am a confident and motivated manager with a solid technical background. I am a good team player and leader, yet equally comfortable working independently. I have excellent organisational skills and for many years have been capable of working under extreme pressure meeting critical delivery targets. I have a proven track record as an instructor / trainer and as a mediator liaising with other organisations. I am an excellent communicator with the ability to converse effectively at every level. I have advanced IT skills and the ability to articulate fluently.

 

PROFESSIONAL TESTIMONIAL

 

I hold an Honours Degree in Fire Engineering and Management, and I am a Corporate Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (by examination). This followed earlier examination success as a Graduate of the IFE (gaining the second highest marks in the world). I am also a full HSE Section 25 enforcement inspector (2009), and work on National CFOA consultation committees. I was a long serving Fire Safety Officer and I was an International question setter, adjudicator and exam marker for the IFE. I have also written and produced a substantial SLA covering all of the North West Fire Services and the Regional Water Company - United Utilities, and personally pioneered the introduction of Strategic Fire Hydrants in Manchester, the first of its kind in Europe.

PRESENT

In July of this year I transferred to the Operational Department at Fire Service Headquarters working predominantly on Operational Intelligence, GIS and Scientific work for the future. Prior to this for 5 years I was in the Fire Safety Department at Headquarters, working on Fire Safety Enforcement issues, Explosives Inspection & Enforcement and Strategic Firefighting Water supplies.

Several years ago I qualified as a HSaW Inspecting Officer with full Section 20 – 25 inspection and seizure powers.

As an experienced Fire Safety and Operational Officer I provide guidance and advice at National level on CFOA Committees.

I spent 3 years writing and producing the published Regional Service Level Agreement for all of the North West Fire Authorities and the Water Authority, I have written the Brigade’s extensive Water Policy and personally pioneered and introduced Strategic Fire Hydrants following 2 years liaison work in Greater Manchester.

I am heavily involved with National issues, meeting regularly in London providing advice, guidance and determination on future national standards and policy on National Committee and Groups.

 

PERSONAL LIFE & INTERESTS

I am married to Helen, I have one son, Conor aged 11 and I enjoy Music, (playing and teaching guitar), Motorsport, Sailing (qualified to Skipper), I.T. & computing, DIY & Building.

 

FUTURE

I am eligible to retire from the Fire Service as of 1st December 2009, at aged 50, however I may extend this date to 31st December to allow sufficient training of my replacement.
